Since December of 2005, Roots of Faith has held services every Sabbath in the historic Temple Sinai Synagogue in Saint Francisville. The Town actually owns the building but has graciously allowed us to occupy the building, using it unrestricted all this time at no charge. For quite some time, plans have been in the works to restore the Synagogue. The Historical Society has been raising money and we have been put on notice that at some point we will need to vacate the building so that the restoration can take place.

Last week I was informed by a member of the town that plans were being reviewed and I was told to step up the pace in finding a location for Roots of Faith. While I was not given a specific date by which I had to be out of the synagogue I began to pray about our situation. Bridget reminded me of a building in town that might be suitable. Today I drove by the building and it is indeed available for rent. The building is small. I do not know the exact square footage but it will work for our needs. It has a bathroom, a closet, and a single room where we could set up some chairs, our dialogue table and the pulpit from the synagogue. Since the local congregation is small I am certain that we can make this work. The sign says that the rent is $250 per month.

I will post some pictures later, but wanted to send this out to let people know what we are thinking. I never ask for money and am only keeping people in the loop so that you all know about this increase in our costs so that those who may want to help can be aware of the need. We have always had our needs met and I am confident that this will remain the case. I remain committed to providing all of our teaching at no charge. With this added cost of $250 we could use some help.

My goal is to be moved into this place within the next couple of weeks. I want to paint the building, move our artwork and get the internet connection in good working order as soon as possible so that we can transition without any interruption in our online services.

Go to our Support Page to contribute.

Thanks for your continued support of and interest in Roots of Faith.

Shalom, Ross

On Friday night @ 7:00 PM, December 15th, the congregation gathered at the synagogue to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah.

It was a very special service as the Morgan family acted out the story of Hanukkah. Chris read the story as the Morgan boys (Tanner, Collin, Garrett, Dillan, and Jarred), dressed in constumes that their mom had made, put on a star performance. Sheree played music on the keyboard during the service. Everyone enjoyed the show and then Sheree gave a talk on the significance of this festival for believers.

I wish you all could have been there. We look forward to many more services by the Morgan Family!

The book of Hebrews says the following: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrew 10:25 The root word translated “assembly” is the same as the root word from which we get the word synagogue. Thus a synagogue is a place to assemble….and we should not forsake assemblies…….(see above:)

So…… I want to invite you all to an evening of fun and fellowship. An Assembly -

WHEN – Friday, November 10th, 7:00 P.M. until Tenish

WHERE – The Synagogue Please come if you can. This is a good way for us to get to know one another. There is no real agenda and as always the dress is VERY casual and comfortable. I plan to talk about the Bible with anyone that will listen, but I am certain that there will be conversations throughout the building.

You may bring food and drink, but don’t go to a lot of trouble. If you bring meat, please stick with those animals that God calls “clean”. See Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 – call me if you have any questions.

You do not have to bring anything (except a Bible – and you should bring your Bible everywhere anyway:).

“Then they that feared the LORD spake often to one another; and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon His name.” Malachi 3:16

Shalom and hope to see you Friday evening. Call others and invite them, and if you cannot be there on Friday night I hope to see you on Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. Ross

On Saturday, October 7th, I ran into a good friend of mine, which I had not seen in quite some time. We spoke briefly and I informed him of the weekly Bible study in the synagogue and gave him a card with all of my contact information.

The next night, he called me and asked me what the Jewish people were doing during this season. I told him that this was the Festival of Tabernacles or Succoth. He went on to tell me that a friend of the family was visiting from Italy and that she also studied the Jewish Roots of Christianity. He asked me if I would be willing to meet with them and we set up a time. We agreed to meet in the synagogue on Friday, October 13th. So I brought my sons, Seth and Toby, and my oldest son Ty and his wife met me at the synagogue that evening. In short order, my friend Mike, his wife Carolyn and her sister Marge brought Antonella to the synagogue.

We had a delightful discussion about our common interests and Antonella gave me a beautiful picture she had taken in the Old Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem. We took a couple of pictures in front of the synagogue and she promised to email some information about the synagogue that she attends in Italy when she gets back home.

It was very nice to meet someone else that loves the Jewish people and that has begun to recover the Hebraic Heritage of “the faith once for all delivered to the saints.”

It is meetings like these that confirm that the good hand of God is at work in our daily walk.

I hope to stay in touch with Antonella and perhaps she will write us from time to time.
