The Character of God – Abrahamic Faith, Part 3

This class is the third in a series based upon the book, Restoring Abrahamic Faith. In this class, Ross teaches on the character and nature of YHVH. In the Torah, YHVH reveals His character and nature to Moses in Exodus 34. This formula becomes one of the most repeated in Biblical literature.

Ross explores this remarkable self-revelation of God and seeks to convey the essence of who God is. You will not want to miss this class.

The Name of God – Abrahamic Faith, part 2

In this second class, Ross further explores the foundational biblical concept of “Knowing God”. In this class, Ross teaches on the subject of God’s name.

God has a personal name that is revealed in the pages of the Hebrew Bible. While this name appears nearly 7,000 times in the original Hebrew text, most translations hide this with the title, LORD.

You will learn about the name as it is revealed in the Hebrew Bible in this class. Ross covers two of the more commonly known variations of the name.

Restoring Abrahamic Faith – Part 1

This lesson is the first in a series that reviews the idea of Abrahamic Faith.  What was the faith of Abraham? With the recent release of James Tabor’s, thoroughly revised book, Restoring Abrahamic Faith, I wanted to cover the subject so that people have a clearer idea of where I am coming from in regards to spiritual matters.

In the early 90′s I read a paper by James Tabor entitiled Restoring Abrahamic Faith.  This work and each of its successive versions has challenged me to restore an ancient biblical faith. The clear teachings contained in this work have so inspired me in my personal quest that I want to share them and in so doing, to encourage people to return to the pure faith of Abraham.

In this series I will follow the general outline of the book. I feel that the presentation of the material, as laid out by Dr. Tabor is easy to follow, and when these fundamental and essential teachings are taught in this order, one comes away with a clearer understanding of the Core Teachings of Scripture.

I begin the series with a brief introduction of the man who would become known as the father of all the faithful. “Look to Abraham” the prophet Isaiah would charge all those who pursue righteousness and seek YHVH (Isaiah 51:1-2).

The series begins with the first key concept of this ancient way – Knowing God. Just who is the God of Abraham? The masses are confused over this foundational truth, but the Hebrew Bible clearly identifies this God without the slightest trace of ambiguity.

I carefully cover some of the key passages in the Bible about “knowing” this God. The Bible is clear. YHVH is God and there is no other.

You will not want to miss this new series.

Sunday Shul – Yom Kippur

This week’s class is on the subject of Yom Kippur – commonly referred to as the Day of Atonement.

This is a season of Sactity. The seventh month is the Holiest of months, and the 10th day of the 7th month is the holiest day of the year. It is considered a Sabbath of Sabbaths; a time of repentance and acceptance, a season of teshuvah.

Ross looks at the two texts from the Torah that describe the activities of this day, and then focuses on one single element of this holy day – something that we are to do, an eternal statute.

Ross’ class is around the idea of “denying one’s self”.  This single point is mentioned 5 times in the two torah passages (Leviticus 16 and 23). What does this mean and how can we apply this concept into our lives as a means of fulfilling the true intent of this day of Atonement.

Many will be fasting during the 24 hour day (evening of Tishri 9 until evening of Tishri 10). What is the true meaning of a fast that is acceptable to God?

Listen to this class and be prepared for the Day of Atonement.

Sunday Shul – Yom Teruah

This week, Ross covers the subject of Yom Teruah. Beginning with a sermon that dates to approximately 458 B.C.E., Ross illustrates the Biblical significance of the 1st day of the 7th month.

Weaving the upcoming Torah and Prophet reading for Sabbath Shuvah (The Sabbath of Repentance) with the ancient sermon, Ross points out a path for repentance found within the Torah.

This timely message should be “heard” and proclaimed as we enter into what Josephus calls the “Sacred Month”.

Look for the new moon and realize that once it is spotted, we are in the “Day of the Awakening Blast.”
