Sunday Shul - Messiah, Part 3

In this class Ross explores the idea of the King as it relates to the Messiah. In this class, Ross looks at the origin of the monarchy in ancient Israel.  Was it the will of God to have a monarchy?

Most students of Scripture anticipate a coming King of the line of David who will reign. How did Yeshua respond when he was asked if he was a king?

Ross also looks at an ancient sect of Jewish “Christians” known as the Ebionites.  Do they have some insights that we need to recover as we search for truth?

Here are some of the texts that Ross uses in his study of the Kingdom;

1 Samuel 8
1 Samuel 10:17-25
1 Samuel 12:12-25

Deuteronomy 17:14ff

Is there to be a Kingdom?  Yes, but is it what we have in our mind? See the text in Exodus 19:5-6.  See also Zechariah 14:9.

Sabbath Service - Genesis 35:9-36:43

Today’s class focuses on redemption - a fitting theme during this festival season of Pesach. The Torah story that we read in this service has Jacob / Israel returning to the land of his fathers. Once again we learn that God is changing his name from Jacob to Israel (35:10; see also 32:27-28). We find the familiar covenant promises of progeny and land.

The class has some surprises, some interesting connections, and I share some things in this class that I feel are very important for a proper understanding of the final redemption.

I also pick up on a theme that is evident in the text and weave this into my class. The theme is of weeping, mourning and finally of comfort for those that are redeemed.

The story of the birth of Benjamin and the death of Rachel are explored in a way that ties them to a prophetic picture painted by Micah. Could these words have more meaning than we have realized?

Jeremiah 31 mentions a New Covenant. In this text, we find that despite the joyous events being described therein, we have one weeping - Rachel. Why is Rachel weeping and what if anything does this have to do with the First Century movement initiated by Yeshua?

You will not want to miss this class. Shalom to you and yours. We are counting our way towards Pentecost. Are you preparing yourself for something wonderful? You should be. Shalom, Ross
