In this week’s lesson Ross makes a connection between the parable of the sower (Mark 4:1-33)and perhaps the text from Isaiah that is the source of this parable of Jesus.

Isaiah 51:16 says that God put His words in the mouth of the prophet in order to “plant the heavens”. This idea of planting the heavens is closely associated with bringing the Kingdom of God to earth - one of the primary teachings of Jesus.

The torah reading this week contains the “teaching” of the prophet, priest and king - all in the same torah portion. This week’s lesson establishes the pattern for a stable social order complete with checks and balances. We read of Justice, judges, judgement and righteousness.

Deuteronomy 16:18-20 says, “tzedek tzedek you shall pursue“. This is likely the source of Yeshua’s words in John 7:24.

It is tzedek that is the foundation of the kingdom of heaven. We must all do our part to plant the heavens on the earth, or as Jesus said, “Let your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
