Today is known as Shabbat Shuvah - the Sabbath of repentance or return. This is the name of the Sabbath that falls between Yom Teruah, the Day of Shouting and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

These ten days between Yom Teruah and Yom Kippur are known as the Days of Awe.

In this week’s lesson, Ross begins by setting the scene of the judgment in Daniel 7:9ff.

We learn of the “seriousness of sin” and the meaning of repentance - turning from sin and towards God.  Further, Ross teaches the idea of “turning” others from sin.  See for example the writing of James (Chapter 5:19-20).

From the earliest chapters of Genesis we meet with sin and it is often personified.  See for example the words of Genesis 4:7 where we read of its “couching at the door”. Ross does however show from these earliest words on the subject of sin that per God, we can rule over it.

Repentance is the remedy.  Turn from sin and serve God.  Repent!  This is the first “ministry word” of Yeshua as well as John the Baptist (see Matthew 4:17 and Matthew 3:2).

Ross also shows a version of the sinner’s prayer….but from the prophet Hosea!

There is this idea that people have that in the “Old” testament, God desired sacrifices, but in the “New” we learn that God really wanted the heart of the people…obedience.

Today’s class highlights what God really wants from us when we turn to him.  Is it blood? Is it sacrifice?
