Re’eh - Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17
The torah reading this week, means “see”. It begins with Moses declaring to the people that 2 ways are before them; a way of blessing if they keep the commandments and one of cursing if they do not keep the commandments.
An initial pass through this torah reading reveals several possible teaching topics within its pages. Here are a few examples:
The Central place of worship - the place chosen by God
The purity of worship and the charge to rid all foreign influence from worship
The false prophet, the dietary laws, the festivals…all are in this week’s lesson. The Haphtorah contains the well known passage, “No weapon formed against thee shall prosper”.
But despite all of these topics from which to choose, Ross selected the one subject about which Yeshua taught - the poor. In this class Ross emphasizes that God does not need your money, no matter what the prosperity preacher may say.
The Good new goes to the poor (Isaiah 61; Luke 7:22; Luke 4:16ff, Matthew 11:2-5 for example).
Ross also covers the subject of the “evil eye”. What does this mean in its original context?
Indeed Yeshua, quoting from this week’s torah portion tells us that we will always have the poor with us. The challenge before us is to treat them in accordance with the teaching of the Torah.
Filled with good practical information from the Bible, this class will challenge what many have been taught regarding paying for their spiritual education.
Listen to the lesson and let us know what you think.
