In this week’s class, Ross ties together the Torah reading with the Temptation of Jesus (Matthew 4 / Luke 4).

Moses spends 40 days in the wilderness (Exodus 34:28; Deuteronomy 9:9, 18) and neither eats nor drinks. Ross puts forth the theory that when Yeshua spent 40 days in the wilderness and neither ate or drank that the people would have been reading about Moses’ 40 day period of fasting. In fact, in the temptation, Yeshua quotes passages from Deuteronomy chapters 6-10 in his fight with Satan.

The class this week teaches us that we often learn from our sufferings. Fathers chasten sons to teach them.  This is discipline and ultimately the outcome is an obedient heart.

As the torah puts, “What is in your heart?

The New Testament apostle Paul says, “Real circumcision is of the heart - Romans 2:28″. In this week’s class Ross shows that this idea is first mentioned in the Torah and the Prophets (Deuteronomy 10:16; 30:1-6 and Jeremiah 4:4).
