Tetzaveh – Exodus 27:20 – 30:10
This week Ross teaches from Torah portion Tetzaveh, but also speaks on the significance of the special reading for this week. This is a special Sabbath called Shabbat Zachor (the Sabbath of Remembrance). What is it that we are supposed to remember on this day? This special reading is always read on the Sabbath before Purim. The story of Purim is recorded in the book of Esther and recounts how an enemy sought to destroy the Jewish people. Of course the evil plot is thwarted but nonetheless, the lesson is delivered on the very day that the evil decree from Haman – a descendant of Amalek is issued. So Ross begins by reminding the people about the command to blot out the remembrance of Amalek. He also shows that this same spirit of Amalek has been waging war against God’s Kingdom from the beginning of time.
From the Torah reading, Ross explores the biblical idea of the Messiah. You will not want to miss this class called, Making Messiahs. In the end he ties it all together.
Enjoy!
